Facing the Storm
"When speaking of life's hardships, modern day psychologists acknowledge that many humans come with “resilience”, a natural strength to overcome hardship. Resilience can be improved consciously and also improved through environmental conditioning. Similarly, our Creator has highlighted that we are indeed strong enough to battle life’s tests. It’s up to us to work on revisiting how we look at that test. That new state of mind and new paradigm in itself can make the test many times easier.."
1) Know that in life you will fall. That’s not what should worry you. You should worry about how you respond. If you turn back to Allah, you have succeeded. “Allah tests those whom He loves” (Tirmidhi). 2) Everything is written. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. A Muslim must believe that. But do you draw strength from that? Chill and know you are in good hands.
A true Muslim maintains a balanced belief knowing they make their life’s decisions but that Allah’s Will is supreme and that Allah already knows what he or she will choose. This allows a balance in faith and an internal peace in life’s decision making. Plus, praying Salat al-Istikhara (Prayer for seeking guidance) will assure your heart further. “And you cannot will unless (it be) that Allah wills the Lord of the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists)” (Qur’an 81:29) 3) Surround yourself with good company who will remind you of Divine Guidance during life’s tests.
Think of our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) and countless Sahabah (Companions) who reminded each other to live for the eternal life. They consoled each others’ hearts by reminding each other to endure temporary sorrow if it meant pleasing God, doing the right thing, and spreading mercy and justice throughout society. 4) Create a personal relationship with the Book of Allah and pray that you increase in not only Arabic reading and memorization but understanding and implementation.
Once you begin this journey, the Quran’s wisdom will come to you as a gift in each difficult moment of your life, inshaAllah. O Allah, please increase us in beneficial knowledge and wisdom and increase us in Tawakkal, Ameen. O Allah, allow us to let go of our fears. Let us fall not to failure but to our success. And please catch us and place us near You and near success as You have defined it, Ameen.
