Don’t ever underestimate du’a. What is the value of du’a? That you are transferring a situation from your power and ability to the power and ability of Allah. You are moving obstacles from yourself to the One who has no obstacles…

THE POWER OF DUA by Arif Kabir, on Muslim Youth Musings
Make a Dua.. Allah SWT will answer it in the Best possible way.
“Verily your Lord is Generous and Shy. If His servant raises his hands to Him (in supplication) He becomes shy to return them empty” (Ahmad, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)
Imagine your next door neighbor has a personal servant. You find out that the servant is asking for a house, a fancy car, and a large screen TV. Personally speaking, what do you think you would have done in this situation? The most probable thing that would happen is that you would just stare at him blankly. Most likely, the only thing on your mind would be, “His job is to work and just get paid – not to start asking for gifts and free handouts”. Let’s take the scene even further and imagine that not only did the neighbor say yes, but he is encouraging him to ask for more items.
If this was really to happen, any ordinary bystander would have been visibly puzzled at the peculiarity of this scene. However, if we were to look at the scene from a different angle, we might look at it differently. In reality, that scene is very much alike with the connection between Allah and his servants, with the mere exception that Allah’s kingdom would not decrease at all when He gives. Allah’s love for His servants can be beautifully summarized in the following Hadith, “Verily your Lord is Generous and Shy. If His servant raises his hands to Him (in supplication) He becomes shy to return them empty (Ahmad, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)”.
It’s amazing to see how great Dua really is. In a Hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “In the court of Allah, there is no greater thing than Duaa” (Ibn Majah)
There are benefits of making Dua including:
1. The loss of arrogance - For someone that makes constant Dua, arrogance is something that is not among their characteristics because when one beseeches Allah, he is affirming his own powerlessness.
2. The fulfillment of the Dua – You get what you wanted. For the people that sometimes see that their Duas are not being accepted, there is either the option that the Dua will be accepted later on in this life or in the Hereafter or the option that the Dua will accepted by other means as one Hadith said, Jabir narrates from the Prophet, “Whoever does duaa to Allah, Allah fulfills his seeking or in exchange averts misfortune until the duaa is not related to sin or breaking some relation.” (Tirmidhi)
One personal example that I can share is that when I was younger, I had wanted to win first place in a Quran competiton and so, I made Dua to Allah (swt) to help me win. Unfortunately, when the day for the competition came, there was another event that was taking place somewhere else and I had to go with my parents to that event instead of the competition. I felt sad because I had really wanted to win that competition and I wondered what happened to my Dua.
Two weeks later, my parents take me to a speech competition and there, I found out that the organizers will also be holding a Quran competition. I signed up for the competition and after participating in it, the awards ceremony started. Before starting, the organizers made a statement that made me awestruck; they said they would like to thank the organizers of a Quran competition that was held two weeks ago because the format of the whole competition was exactly the same as the one held two weeks back. I only became even more awestruck when I found out that I won first place.
Looking back, I realized that if we make a Dua, Allah (glorified and exalted be He) will answer it in the best possible way for us. Therefore, if we do not see our Dua being accepted immediately, we should not despair because either it will help us against some misfortune, or it might be accepted later…
3. The doors of mercy are opened – Abdullah bin Umar narrated that the Prophet said, “For whoever the door of Dua opened, for him the doors of mercy are opened...” (Tirmidhi)-
4. It has the power to change destiny (only the minor Qadr – not major ones such as the signs of the Day of Judgment) – Salman Farsi narrated that the Prophet said, “Dua turns away destiny and good deeds lengthen age (Tirmidhi).
There are certain things that one should keep in mind concerning the Dua:
1. The Prophet once said, “Dua is Ibadah” (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Abu Dawud). Since it is a type of worship, it is something that we must always do. This is even to the extent that the Prophet said, “Allah is extremely displeased with the person who doesn’t do duaa to Allah” (Tirmidhi).
2. As mentioned before, the Dua must always be done. Nowadays, we only say our Duas when hardship befalls us and is the last resort, when all else has failed. However, this should not be the case as the Prophet (saw) said, Whosoever desires that Allah answers his Duas in unfavorable and difficult conditions, he should make plentiful dua in days of ease and comfort.”
3. Try making Dua for others because if you do so, the same thing may also occur to you too. There are certain ayahs in the Quran such as the last Ayah in Surah Nuh, the meaning of which is, “O my Lord! Forgive me, my parents, all who enter my house in Faith, and (all) believing men and believing women: and to the wrong-doers grant Thou no increase but in perdition!” If you are to recite this verse, then you get a sin erased for every Muslim living in this world. Also, the Prophet said, ”Duaa for a person not present is accepted quickly by Allah”.
4. Have complete conviction that Allah will accept the Dua, because if you don’t, then there is a high chance it won’t be accepted. The Prophet said, “When anyone of you does Dua then don’t say “Oh Allah! Forgive me if you want“, “Have mercy on me if you want“, “Give me subsistence if you wish” rather believe completely that HE will do whatever HE wishes. Nobody can force Him.” (Bukhari)

Can the prayer change the fate of a man? QUESTION.
Our destiny is written when we are still in the woumbs of our mothers and nothing will be added or subtracted from it after. But we are also told that to make dua for each and every things in our life. My question is if the destiny has already written for each person, will the dua changes the destiny of a person. One of my friend argues that the destiny will change with duas. Otherwise why we have been insisted to make duas and what is the use of dua if the destiny has been already written and will not change the destiny? ANSWER.
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 57 Surah Hadid verses 22-23: No misfortune can happen on earth or in your souls but is recorded in a Decree before We bring it into existence! That is truly easy for Allah: In order that ye may not despair over matters that pass you by, nor exult over favors bestowed upon you. For Allah loves not any vainglorious boaster.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 59: With Him (Allah) are the keys of the Unseen the treasures that none knoweth but He. He knoweth whatever there is on the earth and in the sea. Not a leaf doth fall but with His Knowledge: there is not a grain in the darkness (or depths) of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is (inscribed) in a Record Clear.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verse 70: Knowest thou not that Allah knows all that is in heaven and on earth? Indeed it is all in a Record, and that is easy for Allah.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 34 Surah Saba verse 3: The Unbelievers say "Never to us will come the hour". Say "Nay! But most surely, by my Lord, it will come upon you by Him who knows the unseen; from whom is not hidden the least little atom in the heavens or on earth: nor is there anything less than that or greater, but is (Decreed) in the Record Perspicuous.
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 94 Narrated by Ubadah ibn as-Samit Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘The first thing which Allah created was the Pen. He commanded it to write. It asked: ‘What should I write?’ He said:’ write the Decree (al-Qadr).’ So it wrote what had happened and what was going to happen up to eternity.
Fate or Destiny (Al-Qadr) is nothing more than the documentation of the Absolute and Perfect Knowledge of The Lord All-Mighty which He Commanded to be written and preserved even before the creation of anything in the Heavens and the earth; thus the ‘Qadr’ itself cannot be changed or altered in the least.
Allow us to relate two examples stated in the Glorious Quran to prove our point that dua (or anything else for that matter) does not change the ‘Qadr’ or Pre-Ordained Destiny recorded with Allah Subhanah:
The incident regarding the Noble Prophet Yunus (A.S.) who was swallowed by the fish and he supplicated Allah Subhanah from the depths of the ocean, and the Lord Most Merciful answered his prayers and delivered him from his distress.
The incident regarding the Noble Prophet Zakariyah (a.s.) who was childless for an abject long time and in his old age supplicated Allah Subhanah to grant him a righteous off-spring. The Lord Most Gracious accepted the supplication of the Noble Prophet Zakariyah (A.S.), cured his wife’s barrenness, and bestowed upon him a son of the stature of the Noble Prophet Yahya (a.s.).
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 21 Surah Anbiyaa verses 87-90:
And remember Zun-nun (Prophet Yunus (A.S.)) when he departed in wrath: he imagined that We had no power over him! But he cried through the depths of darkness "There is no god but Thou: Glory to Thee: I was indeed wrong!" So We listened to him: and delivered him from distress: and thus do We deliver those who have faith.
And (remember) Zakariyah (a.s.) when he cried to his Lord: "O my Lord! Leave me not without offspring though Thou art the best of inheritors. So We listened to him: and We granted him Yahya: We cured his wife's (barrenness) for him. These three were ever quick in emulation in good works: they used to call on Us with love and reverence and humble themselves before Us.
Ref: the case of Prophet Yunus (a.s.)
It is not as if that it was Decreed in the ‘Qadr’ of Allah that Prophet Yunus (a.s.) would live in the stomach of the fish forever….and only because Prophet Yunus (a.s.) supplicated Allah from the bottom of the ocean to relieve of him of his distress, Allah Subhanah had to now change the ‘Qadr’ and relieve him of his agony!
But it was already documented and a part of the ‘Qadr’ that Hadrat Yunus (a.s.) would depart from his people in wrath, will be thrown in the sea, the fish will swallow him, and from the stomach of the fish Prophet Yunus (a.s.) would earnestly supplicate his Lord, and Allah Subhanah would accept the supplication of His slave and Prophet, and deliver him from his distress.
Thus brother, it is not the supplication of Prophet Yunus (a.s.) which changed the ‘Qadr’ of Allah, but it was already in the Absolute and Perfect Knowledge of Allah Subhanah that during that time of distress Prophet Yunus (a.s.) would call upon his Lord, and the Lord Most Gracious would accept his supplication and remove his distress from him.
Ref: the case of Prophet Zakariyah (a.s.)
Similarly, it is not as if it was Decreed in the ‘Qadr’ of Allah that He would not bestow a son to His Noble Slave and Prophet Zakariyah (a.s.)…..and only because Prophet Zakariyah (a.s.) supplicated Allah Subhanah to grant him an offspring, Allah Subhanah had to now change the ‘Qadr’ and grant him a son!
It was already documented in the ‘Qadr’ or Pre-Ordained Destiny that Allah Subhanah would not bestow a child to Hadrat Zakariyah (a.s.) until his abject old age as a trial, and when the time of trial would come to pass, Hadrat Zakariyah (a.s.) would supplicate his Lord to bestow him with a son….and the Lord Most Gracious would accept the supplication of His slave and Prophet and bestow upon him his son and heir, Prophet Yahya (a.s.).
Thus it is not that Allah Subhanah (Aoodobillah) does not know that His slave will ask for something, and He would have to change the ‘Qadr’ every time He accepts the supplications of His believing slaves…..but rather the ‘dua’ or ‘supplication’ one makes unto their Lord for something is already in the Perfect and Absolute Knowledge of Allah Subhanah which He recorded in the ‘Qadr’ with Him.
Fate or Destiny (Al-Qadr) is nothing more than the documentation of the Absolute and Perfect Knowledge of The Lord All-Mighty which He has commanded to be written and preserved even before anything in creation came into existence; such is the Perfect and Absolute Knowledge of the Lord All-Knowing, All-Wise.
Thus in conclusion brother, rest absolutely assured that the ‘Qadr’ or Fate or Destiny which is recorded with Allah Subhanah can never ever change or be altered….nor does it ever need to…for the Knowledge of the Lord is Absolute and Perfect and the ‘Qadr’ is no more than the documented Knowledge of the Lord Most Majestic with Him.
Your question: Otherwise why we have been insisted to make duas and what is the use of dua if the destiny has been already written and will not change the destiny?
Thus the question would arise: ‘why should one make ‘dua’ or supplications when what is written in the ‘Qadr’ cannot be changed’?
Answer: The one who makes the ‘dua’ or supplication does not know the ‘Qadr’, for that is known to Allah Subhanah Alone. The very fact that one who is in distress or in need supplicates his Lord signifies that the person recognizes the Power and Strength of his Lord Most Majestic and sincerely believes that none other than His Lord Creator can bestow him his need….and that is precisely why the Messenger of Allah (saws) declared in Truth that ‘Supplication is worship’.
Nu'man b. Bashir reported that the Prophet (saws), said, "Verily supplication is worship." Narrated by Ahmad and Sunan.
If one knew what is documented in one’s ‘Qadr’, and it is absolutely evident that the ‘Qadr’ cannot be changed or altered in the least….there would indeed be no need to make supplications; but because none knows what is documented in the ‘Qadr’ except Allah Subhanah, it would only be an extension of one’s true belief in their Lord that they supplicate the good and the lawful from Him and Him Alone.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.www.islamhelpline.com

Imagine, dua is supplicating to Allah SWT for ourselves. For our needs, our wishes and hopes, for success in our careers, for an A plus in our exams, for our children to be happy, for love, for happiness... we are asking HIM for OUR OWN SELVES. and it is regarded as worship of HIM. How Amazing is Our Lord. People in the world always run away from you when you ask them for something. When you ask them, they feel annoyed. They feel they are doing you a HUGE favor, sometimes they are burdened. Allah SWT wants us to ask Him. He LOVES it when we ask Him. He is saying ASK ME, and I WILL GRANT YOU. And all the people we ask- who dont want to be asked and don't even have the power to provide anything.. and we dont ask the ONE who LOVES to be asked, and who actually has the Power to provide! Beyond our most beautiful hopes and dreams. Subhan Allah. Raise your hands to Allah SWT and ASK.

Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:The Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wasalam) said: “The people who will be nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who supplicate Allah more often for me.” [At-Tirmidhi]

Ya Allah, we, your servants, are weak. We fall into ruts, we move backwards, we keep tripping instead of running, but help us keep pushing, accept our tiny actions, our little smiles, our miniscule deeds, even if they weren’t performed with complete heart. Ya Allah, we are trying, and you know the sincerity of your slaves. Please help us keep pushing. (Source: destinationjannah)

A Sacred Conversation
There is a time of night when the whole world transforms. During the day, chaos often takes over our lives. The responsibilities of work, school, and family dominate much of our attention. Other than the time we take for the five daily prayers, it is hard to also take time out to reflect or even relax. Many of us live our lives at such a fast pace, we may not even realize what we’re missing. But there is a time of night when work ends, traffic sleeps, and silence is the only sound. At that time—while the world around us sleeps—there is One who remains awake and waits for us to call on Him. We are told in the hadith qudsi: “Our Lord descends during the last third of each night to the lower heaven, and says: ‘Is there anyone who calls on Me that I may respond to him? Is there anyone who asks Me that I may give unto him? Is there anyone who requests My Forgiveness that I may forgive him?’” (Bukhari and Muslim) One can only imagine what would happen if a king were to come to our door, offering to give us anything we want. One would think that any sane person would at least set their alarm for such a meeting. If we were told that at exactly one hour before dawn a check for $10,000,000 would be left at our doorstep, would we not wake up to take it? Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala (exalted is He) has told us that at this time of night, just before dawn, He will come to His servants. Imagine this. The Lord of the universe has offered us a sacred conversation with Him. That Lord waits for us to come speak with Him, and yet many of us leave Him waiting while we sleep in our beds. Allah (swt) comes to us and asks what we want from Him. The Creator of all things has told us that He will give us whatever we ask. And yet we sleep. There will come a day when this veil of deception will be lifted. The Qur’an says: “[It will be said], You were certainly in unmindfulness of this, and We have removed from you your cover, so your sight, this Day, is sharp.” (Qur’an 50:22). On that Day, we will see the true reality. On that Day, we will realize that two rak`at (units) of prayer were greater than everything in the heavens and the earth. We will realize the priceless check that was left on our doorstep every night as we slept. There will come a day when we would give up everything under the sky just to come back and pray those two rak`at. There will come a day when we would give up everything we ever loved in this life, everything that preoccupied our hearts and minds, every mirage we ran after, just to have that conversation with Allah. But on that Day, there will be some from whom Allah (swt) will turn away… and forget, as they had once forgotten Him. The Qur’an says: “He will say, ‘My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?’ [Allah] will say, ‘Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten.’” (Qur’an, 20:125-126) In Surat al-Mu’minoon, Allah says: “Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.” (Qur’an, 23:65) Can you imagine for a moment what these ayat (verses) are saying? This is not about being forgotten by an old friend or classmate. This is about being forgotten by the Lord of the worlds. Not hellfire. Not boiling water. Not scalded skin. There is no punishment greater than this. And as there is no punishment greater than this, there is no reward greater than what the Prophet ﷺ describes in the following hadith: “When those deserving of Paradise would enter Paradise, the Blessed and the Exalted would ask: Do you wish Me to give you anything more? They would say: Hast Thou not brightened our faces? Hast Thou not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Fire? He would lift the veil, and of things given to them nothing would be dearer to them than the sight of their Lord, the Mighty and the Glorious.” [Sahih Muslim] But one does not need to wait until that Day to know the result of this nighttime meeting with Allah (swt). The truth is, there are no words to describe the overwhelming peace in this life from such a conversation. One can only experience it to know. Its effect on one’s life is immeasurable. When you experience qiyam, the late night prayer, the rest of your life transforms. Suddenly, the burdens that once crushed you become light. The problems that were irresolvable become solved. And that closeness to your Creator, which was once unreachable, becomes your only lifeline. (by yasmin mogahed)
