My Lord or landlord?I have been struggling with Fajr prayers for a while now. The cold mornings of this endless winter create an incredible feeling of morning laziness; your blanket is all you need and your bed you will not leave. I spent about a week trying to wake up for Fajr everyday and could not even pray before I left the house for school. Shaytan’s tricks were endless; his plan for me not to have a special connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala kept surprising me everyday: “I should sleep a little more, Fajr is in five minutes anyways, my alarm is too loud, I’ll lower the volume, I can’t wake up so early I have a long day tomorrow, I’ll just pray before I leave, etc.” I’m sure a lot of you know what I’m talking about. During this infamous week, my landlord sent me an email saying there was a problem with the payment I had made for the month and I needed to get the cheque down to their agency by the following morning, before 8 a.m. I live about an hour and thirty minutes by bus from the agency, which meant I would have to wake up before Fajr time to make it in time. I woke up right when my alarm went off, took a shower, got ready and was out before Fajr time. While I was waiting for the bus, I realized how cold it was, but something else was nagging at me and I could not understand what it was. I was very upset about having had to wake up early, and did not even want to go to drop the cheque off to my landlord. Then it hit me. I realized, with tears running down my face, and with awkward looks from people in the bus shelter, that I did not do this for Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. I had let Shaytan win over me for a whole week, giving myself all kinds of excuses to not get up and pray, but when it had come to a matter pertaining to the Dunya, to please someone who had authority over me in the Dunya, I did not hesitate. May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala forgive me for this and all of us for our negligence concerning Him. The question remains: who do we want to please? Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala or mere people, who themselves will suffer for their own sins and shortcomings? Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala or Shaytan himself? Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala or our personal desires? As silly and sad as it sounds, this battle was between my Lord and landlord, although I know my love for Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is infinite and keeps growing everyday. The situations may vary, but the struggle is the same; whether you have been completely missing Fajr prayer, feel very lazy waking up, or simply missing out on the sweetness of a deed for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, the problem remains the same. As Muslims we need to remember how blessed we are to have Islam in our lives, so why not live up to our name, face our struggles, and challenge ourselves for the sake of Allah? May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala give us the strength to overcome this feeling of laziness and excuses that we constantly hide behind, Ameen. I want to end with a du’aa my father used to repeat in the car every morning when we were kids; a du’aa I only recently became fond of and deeply attached to: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, anxiety and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from the torments of grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trials and tribulations of life and death.” [Bukhari and Muslim]And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala knows best. In explaining the testimony of faith, Muslim scholars have listed seven conditions of the shahadah, which a Muslim must fulfill so that s/he may be acknowledging the unity of Allah in open and in secret.
These seven are:
- Al-`Ilm (Knowledge of the meaning of the shahadah, its negation and affirmation)
Al-Yaqeen (Certainty – perfect knowledge of it that counter-acts suspicion and doubt) Al-Ikhlaas (Sincerity which negates shirk) Al-Sidq (Truthfulness that permits neither falsehood nor hypocrisy) Al-Mahabbah (Love of the shahadah and its meaning, and being happy with it) Al-Inqiad (Submission to its rightful requirements, which are the duties that must be performed with sincerity to Allah (alone) seeking His pleasure) Al-Qubool (Acceptance that contradicts rejection).
What is His DUE Estimate?Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A (Jewish) rabbi came to Allah's Messenger (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) and he said, "O Muhammad! We learn that Allah will put all the heavens on one finger, and the earths on one finger, and the trees on one finger, and the water and the dust on one finger, and all the other created beings on one finger. Then He will say, 'I am the King"'. Thereupon the Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) smiled so that his premolar teeth became visible, and that was the confirmation of the rabbi. Then Allah's Messenger (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) recited: " They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand." (39:67) The reality of this world
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) that-he said:
"The seven heavens and seven earths will be as small in Allah's Hand as a seed of mustard in one of your hands."Obeying people in the disobedience of AllahThey (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah.. (9:31)
About this verse, it is said that when the rabbis and monks prohibited what was allowed and allowed what was prohibited to the Christians and Jews, they obeyed.
Thus, things were made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah..

LOVE FOR THE WORLD
“O My beloved Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم! Say: “ قُلْ مَتَاعُ الدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٌ
“Every single thing that exists in this world is قَلِيلٌ ; is but a trifle – small and insignificant in the eyes of Allah سبحانه وتعالى “
And Allah سبحانه وتعالى in the Qur’an-e-karim also refers to the “Dunya” as a place of “Ghuroor” – “A place of delusion; A place of deception; A place where human beings are tricked and duped; A place where human beings find themselves attracted”
RasoolAllah صلى الله عليه وسلم said that this Dunya is green and lush. And it is going to attract you towards it…
Through a metaphor you can understand this hadith – Imagine that people are walking through a jungle and they look to their left and right and they see lush scenery, vegetation, fruits and they’d just want to walk off the path! – And this is what sirat-ul-mustaqeem is. And, its amazing that RasoolAllah صلى الله عليه وسلم was describing this initially to the Sahaba-e-karaam ra but really for us, we are really living in a dunya where everywhere you can see the glitter and glamour and shimmering brilliant styles, life and fashion, displays of the dunya.
And I remember when I was growing up in New York City, there were very famous stores -jewelery stores; department stores; 5th avenue; madison avenue; park avenue…these stores would have such nice displays of goods that people would just want to walk by because it was such a beautiful display. This is what the whole world of Marketing is all about – they are trying to make the dunya attractive; even if its something jaiz in the dunya! It is such a materialistic age; what happens is that all of this marketing and media takes over our heart; take over the passions and attractions of our heart instead of us being passionate about Allah سبحانه وتعالى, Qur’an-e-karim, Sunnah of Nabi-e-karim صلى الله عليه وسلم .
People who are so trained in getting these visual and sensory pleasures they have lost the ability to get pleasures of the heart. When they look they are feasting their eyes with that display – they are getting all of the Qur’anic vocabulary – of sukoon; rahat; itminaan etc – they are getting that by looking at the way clothing is arranged; the way household purchase is arranged at the window!
I’m not talking about sin here and I think it is very important to understand that because a lot of Muslims have this misunderstanding that its only sin that is forbidden in the deen of Islam, its not just sin- Allah سبحانه وتعالى in the Qur’an-e-karim is certainly calling us away from sin but Allah swt is also calling us away from attachments of the world; from the fascinations of the world; from being of the world. Now this means that doesn’t mean being totally oblivious of the world, but it does mean what we call “Zuhad”. I feel more and more, specially while living in the west, that we need a lot more Zuhad than we have, we need a dis-attachment from this world and a dis-entrenchment from this world because we are totally entrenched in the world.
Syeddina RasoolAllah صلى الله عليه وسلم:
hubbu dunya ra’asa kulli khatee’a
That Love for the world, Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم didn’t say love for sins or love for haraam, He صلى الله عليه وسلم said love for the world mutlaq i.e. just having love for the world is the source for all evil; for all error; for all sin.
If we look in ourselves, we will see that we have this love for the world inside of ourselves and it is very difficult to take it out.
To Save ourselves, what we need is:
SUPER TAQWA
Not just Taqwa, but Super Taqwa – that a person has masha’Allah so much Taqwa that they really stay away from all sins – that they don’t do sin, they don’t think about sin, they don’t yearn sin, they don’t crave sin, they don’t remember sin – they don’t read old e-mails that remind them of sin, they don’t read old sms-es that remind them of their sin…we are really so attached to sin in the simple ways of life that it is very difficult [for us to get rid of it]. I would recommend each one of us including myself and all of those who are listening that we need to sit down and delete all those memories – that we should delete all those emails, all those sms-es, all those pictures; all those things – because until you do it – you remain attached to them, you remain enslaved by them. Really, we shouldn’t even use such a low-level term such as “attached” it is actually that we are so “enslaved” [by these memories of sin] that we are not able to delete them from our mind. If I’m not able to press one single button “delete” – it means I am enslaved to it! That I am enslaved to it more than I am enslaved to Allah سبحانه وتعالى and the reason why is because we love it, because we have hubb for it!
SUPER DHIKR
So, If a person doesn’t have super taqwa, the way they can start is by doing Super Dhikr. What is Super Dhikr? This is my idiomatic, what you call a loose translation for the Arabic word “Dhikr-e-Kaseer”. As opposed to abundant dhikr or extensive dhikr, I am calling it “Super Dhikr”.
Super Dhikr means that a person does a lot of dhikr of Allah سبحانه وتعالى in every single way that the word has been properly understood from or has been used in the Qur’an-e-karim, in the Sunnah of Nabi-e-karim صلى الله عليه وسلم, in every way that it has been used by Sahaba-e-karaam, by the tabi’een, taba-e-tabi’een, by all of the siddiqeen, saadiqeen, saaliheen!
When a person does a lot of dhikr what happens is that: Eventually, automatically, a person loses their attraction from this world. This is one of the great benefits of Dhikr. This is why I think that people should not consider dhikr as optional – instead they should view Dhikr as optional Shariah that is necessary for us to do amal on. [E.g.] Just like the amount of food we eat and necessitate upon ourself, we don’t have a fardh only atttitude towards our life. . If we had a fardh-only attitute towards it, it would mean that we would means that we would eat only few calories per day;
if we had a fardh-only home, we would live a much more simpler living;
if we only had a fardh-only amount of clothing, we would have a much smaller wardrobe;
if we had a fardh-only amount of education, we wouldn’t have so many degrees that we have;
if we have a fardh-only amount of earning, we wouldn’t have the jobs that we have;
So, even though we know that these things are optional in the Shar’iah, but we choose them as necessary for ourselves. And, those people who have money – they know that university education of their child is optional in the Shariah, but they view it as necessary for their child. Just like that, we should view Dhikr as necessary for ourselves, however it maybe optional in the Shar’iah.
Why? Why is it necessary? Because:
- Dhikr is going to cut me off from loving this world,
- Dhikr is going to protect me from having love for this world,
- And, my Nabi-e-karim صلى الله عليه وسلم said: hubbu dunya ra’asa kulli khatee’a…so because my Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم taught me that love for this world is the source of all evil and all sin that is why Dhikr is necessary for me as it will keep me from loving the world.
The way Dhikr keeps us from loving the world is that Dhikr-ullah, the remembrance of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, serves to:
# 1. Disconnect us from this world - Dhikr is like Scissors: it cuts, one by one, all of the chains and ropes through which we have attached ourselves to this world
#2. Reconnect & Chain us back to Allah سبحانه وتعالى and the Deen - Dhikr restores us back to the chain of Uboodiyah -to the loving bond of being Allahسبحانه وتعالى’s loyal and worshipping servant and slave
The more dhikr a person will do the more they will see these effects.
For example: Lets say a person goes for Umrah or Hajj with a strong intention, with ibadah then when he lands at the airport he doesn’t notice any of the things at the duty-free-shop at the airport – they would want to go straight to their transport and they would want to go straight to Makkah Mukarrama. They don’t even have a glance at the duty free shop or all the types of shops that may be at the airport that he has arrived.
Just like that, this is the way we are supposed to live our whole life. We should view the whole dunya like that duty-free-shop and our whole life like walking through that airport.
Why? Because in that example, the person was totally remembering Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the whole journey was for Allah سبحانه وتعالى, their outward appearance – ihram- is for the sake of Allah, they are reciting takbirat, labbaik Allahumma labbaik for the sake of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, etc – this is what you notice in the whole trip..specially when we travel for Umrah with our own Shaykh, during the whole trip we don’t notice anything else – that whether you are travelling in economy class or business class, you wouldn’t notice any stewardesses during the flight, or the kind of aircraft whether its a Boeing or some other aircraft…you’re oblivious to all these things!
Why? Because Dhikr makes you aware of something higher & greater in nature than the Dunya; because Dhikr makes you aware of & connected to Allah سبحانه وتعالى. But, that requires a lot of Dhikr. So, if a person does super Dhikr, they can also remain away from love for Dunya
فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانْصَبْ وَإِلَى رَبِّكَ فَارْغَبْ
[94:7-8]
So when you have finished (from your occupation), then stand up for Allah's worship (i.e. stand up for prayer). And to your Lord (Alone) turn (all your intentions and hopes and) your invocations.
So, we fool ourselves. The Muslims think even if they get one drop of dunya; they think they have it all. We wear it on our head like a crown – we immediately move into a better neighbourhood; immediately buy a better car etc – this is how attached we are to our dunya.
So, the first way out was Super Taqwa and the second way out was Super Dhikr – and if the person is Qaa’im Daa’im, regular, constant and perseveres on their Dhikr – that will eventually inevitably lead them to Super Taqwa.
We have so much love inside of ourselves! The world never gives up on you, you have to give up on the world; Shaytan will never give up on you, you will have to give up on Shaytan; The Nafs will never give up on you, you have to give up on your Nafs! And this is our problem, that we don’t give up on them, so they don’t give up on us.
That is why everybody is saying that I’m going through these highs and lows -we all have these lows, why? Because of Dunya. We go through these dips because something about the Dunya attracts us back to it, we get allured to it and we go through a dip, we slip. We go to one event, somebody would go to one concert, watch porn movies, watch a T.V program – and thats it! They are right back in the dunya, right back! This is the nature of the Dunya.
It takes one good Salah, you can bring yourself back to Deen; it takes one good Dua, and you can bring yourself right back into the Deen; it takes one good Dhikr, and you can bring yourself right back into Deen; it takes one good Sohbat one good Bayan, and it will bring you right back to Deen!
With the dunya, it is the same way. One slip, and you’d be right back into. So, this is a battle we have to fight. We have to view it as a battle. Its our Spiritual self that wants Taqwa, Sunnah, Dhikr, Ibadah while our bad self and also Shaytan and also Dunya and also Makhlooq – the people around us, you know Shaytan has surrounded us with all types of people who are trying to take us away from Allah سبحانه وتعالى…and this is a big problem.
You should be in the Suhbat of such people who: “when you are in the Sohbat of that person, you forget dunya; when you listen to the talk of that person, you forget dunya; when you walk out of the talk of that person, you look at dunya as if it is a stranger to you; you feel sad even from going out of the Masjid towards your car; when you sit in your car, you feel sad you wish you were still in the Masjid; you wish that the program could go on all night, every night, all you did was to sit in the Masjid in ibadat, Dhikr and bayan"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allah سبحانه وتعالى has said in Qur’an:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ
[9:119]
That O you who believe, you must adopt Taqwa!
What do you need for Taqwa?
Allah سبحانه وتعالى said in Qur’an
وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ
..the company of the saadiqin (truthful)
وَالَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِلَّهِ
[2:165]
That Indeed, those who believe – they have a deep love… a deep need and dependence upon Allah;.
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنْتُمُ الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَى اللَّهِ
[35:15]
That O Humanity! you are needy needy needy – dependent on Allah سبحانه وتعالى!
We have to feel that need, and one big thing that keeps a lot of us from feeling that need for Allah سبحانه وتعالى is because we feel a need for the Dunya. Thats why i say that we need to have Scissors of Taqwa, Scissors of Dhikr and Scissors of Sohbat with our Mashaikh to cut away all of the delusions that we need Dunya and that we need the pleasures of this Dunya and that we need all of these good things of the dunya.
May Allah سبحانه وتعالى enable us to cut ourselves away from that which is distracting us from Him, that which is keeping us from Him – and May He Guide us, Accept us, Take us & Glue us to every single thing that will lead us to Him. May He Put in our hearts a deep dependence for Him [Ameen!]
وَآَخِرُ دَعْوَانَا أَنِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ [9:119]

Allah (sallah Allahoo alyhee wa salam) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:
Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him. [/size]

So Allah or the world?

Allah the Blessed and Almighty said, "O My slaves! I have forbidden injustice to Myself and I have made it unlawful between you, so do not wrong one another. O My slaves! All of you are misguided except those that I guide, so seek My guidance and I will guide you. O My slaves! All of you are hungry except those that I feed so ask me for food and I will feed you. O My slaves! All of you are naked except those that I clothe so ask me for clothing and I will clothe you. O My slaves! You make mistakes by night and by day and I forgive all wrong actions so ask for My forgiveness and I will forgive you. O My slaves! You will never attain to My harm so as to be able to harm Me and you will never attain to My benefit so as to be able benefit Me. O My slaves! If the first and last of you, all the jinn and all the men among you, possessed the heart of the most godfearing man among you, that would not increase My kingdom in any way. O My slaves! If the first and last of you, all the jinn and all the men among you, possessed the heart of the most evil man among you, that would not decrease My kingdom in any way. O My slaves! If the first and last of you, all the jinn and all the men among you, were to stand in a single place and ask of Me, I could give to every man what he asks without that decreasing what I have any more than a needle when it enters the sea. O My slaves! It is your actions for which I call you to account and then repay you in full. So anyone who finds good should praise Allah and anyone who finds something else should blame none but himself."

Showing GratitudeWhen we are given exactly what we’ve always wanted, how do we thank Allah? After four years of searching and abundant duas, Zakirah has finally found her life partner—one that was so worth the wait.
Luqman has been borrowing money from friends since he couldn’t find a job. Despite the terrible job market, he managed to get hired at a prominent company and now he can even send money back home to his parents.
Fariha and Zubair have been childless for seven years and their marriage seems to be breaking. But before the divorce papers are finalized, they are suddenly blessed with a child, thus saving their marriage.
Maryam has spent countless hours studying and preparing for her entrance to graduate school. There have been so many bumps in the road that she has given up all hope. But the day her acceptance letter arrives, she can only put her head down and cry.
In the midst of routine and daily tasks, there are moments when we suddenly attain what we have wanted for so long. And when we receive that beautiful result, it’s as if everything else has stopped for the time being and we feel an overwhelming emotion of happiness and contentment.
Recently, I have had this happen to me and it is a little difficult to describe the barrage of emotions I experienced. I couldn’t help but be struck in awe that Allah had answered my prayers and the prayers of those individuals who I kept asking to pray for me. It made me realize that I had not achieved the result on my own—there was no doubt of divine intervention. Allah had ignored all my sins, all the times I had neglected my Deen for the time being, and answered my prayers. This in itself was a miracle to me.
Of course, it was a little foolish of me to doubt Allah’s ability and Mercy in answering prayers and rewarding us so fully despite our drawbacks. But I couldn’t help but feel an uneasy fear every time I raised my hands in du’aa that Allah would not answer my prayers because simply put, He had every right not to. I was undeserving of His blessings, of His kindness. Just think for a moment—would you help somebody that kept coming back to you for help over and over again but neglected what little you asked of him or her? This is not to compare Allah to His creation however, because He is beyond comparison subhanahu wa ta’ala, but just to illustrate His Immense Mercy and Blessings upon His slaves even while we fall short in our duties to Him.
Allah illustrates to us the common reaction to His blessings in the following verse,
“And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when we have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way like he never invoked Us for a harm that touched him…” [10:12].
Although it is not necessarily harm that we may be asking protection from, but whenever we want something very badly, we commit quite a lot of time and effort in praying for it. But once that result is achieved, perhaps we aren’t as motivated to pray to the same extent or remember to be grateful for what it is that we obtained.
So the relief and contentment that I experienced was accompanied by a desire to please my Lord. We hear of wonderful stories of positive changes but a personal experience makes all the difference. Now that I had another reason to believe in the unparalleled Mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala (though I have a million reasons already) I couldn’t go crazy partying all night in happiness. Instead, I felt an eman rush —one in which I was desperately looking for ways to express my gratitude to Allah; I felt I was in very much indebted to Him. What could I possibly do that would prove to Allah that I really was thankful to Him, that this time I wouldn’t be neglectful of all His blessings upon me?
The answer was so simple that I failed to see it at first. Of course there are obvious ways of conveying gratitude to Allah, such as the prostration of thankfulness. But something even simpler than that is to pick up a good deed and give up on a bad deed for the sake of Allah. After all, what better way to say thanks than to improve upon our character, our actions, and our overall Deen?
So take a moment, especially during this blessed time in Ramadan, to reminisce a time in your life when you were blessed with something so spectacular and special —something above and beyond the blessings you receive daily. And then take a moment to convey true gratitude to your Lord.

THINK...!!! =>Before you think of an unkind word, think of someone who can't speak
=>Befor you complain about the taste of your food, think of someone who has nothing to eat
=>Before you complain about your nagging mother, think of someone who cries to Allah for her to be around
=>Before you complain about life, think of someone who died too young
=>Before you argue about your untidy house, think of people living on streets
=>Before whinning about distance you drive, think of someone who travels same distance on foot,
=>When depressing thoughts get you down, put a smile on your face and thank Allah that you have it better than many othersIndeed life is a mystery, far beyond the grasp of our rationale and comprehension, live and gratify every moment you have. Save as much you can for eternity.. For Truth I have found that absolute truth is Allah, For love I gleaned that pure love is of God... Learn and help others learning.. Stay Blessed

Fear Allah
Hadith - Qudsi 22
Let not any one of you belittle himself. They said: O Messenger of Allah, how can any one of us belittle himself? He said: He finds a matter concerning Allah about which he should say something, and he does not say [it], so Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says to him on the Day of Resurrection: What prevented you from saying something about such-and-such and such-an......d-such? He say: [It was] out of fear of people. Then He says: Rather it is I whom you should more properly fear.
Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi #5083, Narrated AbuDharr
Allah's Messenger (saas) said to him, "Fear Allah wherever you are; if you follow an evil deed with a good one you will obliterate it; and deal with people with a good disposition."

Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi #5140, Narrated Hudhayfah
The Prophet (saas) said, "By Him in Whose hand my soul is, you must enjoin what is reputable and forbid what is disreputable, or Allah will certainly soon send punishment from Himself to you. Then you will make supplication and not receive an answer."

Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi #5142, Narrated AbuBakr as-Siddiq
You people recite this verse, "You who believe, care for yourselves; he who goes astray cannot harm you when you are rightly guided." I heard Allah's Messenger(saas) say, "When people see something objectionable and do not change it, Allah will soon include them all in His punishment."
Ibn Majah and Tirmidhi, who declared it to be sahih, transmitted it.
