PUBLIC SUNNAH
Prevent Yawning as Far as Possible
-- When yawning, it is Sunnat to prevent it as far as possible. (Bukhari).
-- If the mouth cannot be kept closed despite making an effort to do so, then place the back of the left hand over the mouth. While yawning, any sound should not be allowed to emanate
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah loves sneezing but dislikes yawning; so if anyone of you sneezes and then praises Allah, every Muslim who hears him (praising Allah) has to say Tashmit to him. But as regards yawning, it is from Satan, so if one of you yawns, he should try his best to stop it, for when anyone of you yawns, Satan laughs at him."
(Bukhari‐ Vol.2, pg.919, Muslim‐Vol.2, pg. 412, 413)
PRIVATE SUNNAH
Sunnah of Eating (part 1)
-- If only one type of food is in the utensil, eat from the side in front of you. (Bukhari, Muslim)
-- If a morsel falls, pick it up, clean it and eat it. (Muslim)
-- Do not lean and eat. (Bukhari, Abu Dawood)
-- Do not find fault with the food.(Bukhari, Muslim)
Narrated 'Umar bin Abi Salama (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):
I was a boy under the care of Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said to me, 'O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you.' Since then I have applied those instructions when eating.
Bukhari

Public Sunnah
Let's Surprise Our Loved Ones with a gift!- The Beauty and Contentment that comes with Giving far surpasses that of Receiving
Quoting just a few hadith:
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Allah said, 'O son of Adam! Spend, and I shall spend on you."
Narrated Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari: The Prophet said, "When a Muslim spends something on his family intending to receive Allah's reward it is regarded as Sadaqa for him."
Narrated Kurib: the freed slave of Ibn 'Abbas, that Maimuna bint Al-Harith told him that she manumitted a slave-girl without taking the permission of the Prophet. On the day when it was her turn to be with the Prophet, she said, "Do you know, O Allah's Apostle, that I have manumitted my slave-girl?" He said, "Have you really?" She replied in the affirmative. He said, "You would have got more reward if you had given her (i.e. the slave-girl) to one of your maternal uncles."
(Bukhari)

Private Sunnah I go to sleep, like my Prophet *pbuh* did -- On the Right SideAl-Bara' ibn 'Azib said, "When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to retire to his bed, he would lie on his right side and then say, 'O Allah, I surrender my soul to You and I turn my face to You and I entrust my affair to You and I seek Your support with hope and fear of You. There is no refuge from You but to You. I have believed in Your Book which You sent down and Your Prophet whom You sent.'" [al-Bukhari] -- Or I may lie on my back'Abdullah ibn Zayd reported that he saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, lying on his back in the mosque with one foot on top of the other." [Agreed upon] -- But not on my stomach! Ya'ish ibn Tikhfa al-Ghifari said, "My father said, 'Once while I was lying on my stomach in the mosque, a man moved me with his foot and said, "This is a position which Allah hates."'" He said, "I looked up and it was the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." [Abu Dawud] P.S. Science has just discovered a LOT of benefits of sleeping the way Prophet *pbuh* recommended. Just goes to show, the world's JUST realizing that our Prophet's *pbuh* way is the best way And not just for these temporary wordly benefits. For Allah SWT has commanded us to obey Him and His Messenger *pbuh* - and for that, we shall surely be rewarded, insha Allah (Allah Willing)

WEEK: 06.05.2011 - 13.05.2011Private Sunnah
(Sunnah of Eating Part 2)--- Wash both hands upto the wrists. (Tirmidhi) --- Gargle the mouth. (Bukhari) --- Spread out a cloth on the floor (to lay the food on) (Bukhari) --- Recite "bismillah" aloud. (Bukhari, Muslim Public Sunnah
When they seek your advice, advise them sincerely
“The rights of a Muslim upon their fellow Muslim are six.” One of these rights, recorded in Sahih Muslim, is as follows: When they seek your advice, advise them sincerely- This means that if he seeks consultation with you regarding some action, as to whether he should do it or not, then advise him with that which you would like for yourself. Thus, if the action is something that is beneficial in all aspects, then encourage him to do that, and if it is something harmful, then warn him against it.
- And if the action contains both benefit and harm, then explain that to him and weigh the benefits against the harms.
- Likewise, if he consults with you concerning some dealing with someone among the people, or whether he should marry a woman off to someone, or whether he should marry someone, then extend your pure and sincere advice to him, and deal with him from the view point of what you would do for your own self. And avoid deceiving him in any matter of these things. For verily whoever deceives the Muslims, then he is not of them, and indeed he has left off the obligation of being sincere and advising.
- And this sincerity and advising is absolutely obligatory, however it becomes more emphasized when the person seeks your advice and he requests from you that you give him a beneficial opinion. For this reason the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) specifically mentioned it in this important situation.

Private Sunnah
As I go up, or as I come down-
o When ascending any high place one should say Allah u Akbar o When descending to any place, one should say Subhan Allah
(Bukhari)
Public Sunnah
When they sneeze and praise Allah, supplicate for mercy upon them (Muslim)
This is due to the fact that sneezing is a favor from Allah, in the expelling of this congested air that is blocked in certain parts of the body of the human being. Allah makes it easy for this air to have a passage out where it can exit, and thus the sneezing person feels relief.
The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) legislated that the person praise Allah for this favor by saying: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ And he legislated for his (Muslim) brother to say to him, “May Allah have mercy upon you."i.e. say يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ He also commanded the person who sneezed to answer his (Muslim) brother by saying to him, “May Allah guide you and set right your affairs.” يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ
Therefore, whoever does not praise Allah, he is the one who has caused himself to lose the two blessings: the blessing of praising Allah, and the blessing of his brother’s supplication for him that is a result of the praising.

Accepting Invitations
Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: ‘The rights of a Muslim over his fellow Muslim are five: returning greetings, visiting the sick, attending funerals, accepting invitations, and saying Yarhamuk Allaah (may Allaah have mercy on you) when he sneezes.’ (Bukhari and Muslim)
Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Umar (Radiyallahu anhu) narrates that the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “The person who is invited amongst you by his brother should accept the invitation whether it is a wedding invitation or anything similar to it.” [Muslim]”
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If one of you is invited to a waleemah, let him attend.”
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (radiallahu anhu) narrates that the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “If anyone of you is invited for meals, he should accept the invitation. If he is fasting, he should make Duaa (of goodness and blessing) for the inviter (some maintain that he should set out and perform salaah at the host’s house), and if he is not fastin he should partake of the meal.” [Muslim]

DRINKING WATER:
A Muslim should drink with the right hand. Shaytaan Drinks with the left hand.
Sit and drink.
Book 23, Number 5018:
Anas reported that Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) forbade that a person should drink while standing. Qatada reported: We said to him: What about eating? Thereupon he (Anas) said: That is even worse and more detestable (abominable).
Recite 'Bismillah' before drinking.
After drinking say ' Alhamdullilah'.
Drink in 3 breaths removing the utensil from the mouth after each sip.
Do not drink directly from the jug or bottle. One should pour the drink into a glass first and then drink.

Eating Together[/color]
Gather together to gain blessings
In one hadith of the Prophet (SAW), some of his companions complained that they ate but were not satisfied. The Prophet (S) said, "Perhaps you eat separately." They said, "Yes." He said,
"If you gather together and mention Allah's name, you will be blessed in it."
(Abu Dawud)
Do not take two pieces at a time without your companions consent
Jabala ibn Suhaym said, "We were afflicted by a year of drought while we were with Ibn az-Zubayr and were given some dates. 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar passed by us while we were eating and said, 'Do not eat two at once. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade eating two once. Then he said, 'unless a man asks his brother for permission."
(Agreed upon)

Private Sunnah
Satisfied with a little food
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said,
"A Muslim eats in one intestine (i.e. he is satisfied with a little food) while a Kafir (unbeliever) eats in seven intestines (eats much)."
And also,
Narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said,
"The food for two persons is sufficient for three, and the food of three persons is sufficient for four persons."
On the authority of Al-Miqdam ibn Madiy-Karib who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah saying:
"No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. Sufficient for any son of Adam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath." [Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah - Hadith Sahih.]
"The best generation is my generation, followed by the one after them then the one after them. Then will come a people who bear witness but are not asked to bear witness, who swear oaths but do not fulfill them and fatness will appear among them." [Bukhari and Muslim]

Even though following the Sunnah because it is the SUNNAH is more than enough for us, alhumdulilah- there are a LOT of benefits on following just these few words. I found this on the internet, (and I'm sure there is much more to profit- the most important reason of course being running towards Allah SWT's Pleasure Regarding, “No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach…”
- Allaah said, meaning of which is: "Then, they were followed by generations who neglected the prayer and followed their appetites. They will encounter a pit of fire except for those who repent..." [Maryam 59-60]
- From Abee Barza that the Prophet (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said:
"My greatest fear for you is the appetites of transgression with regard to your stomachs and your privates and the inclinations which lead astray." [Ahmad]
- From Aa'ishah: "The family of Muhammad (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) never filled themselves with wheat bread three days in a row from the time he came to Madeenah until he passed away."
1. Ibn Masaweh, a Muslim doctor: "If the people only used these words, they would avoid all diseases and maladies and the clinics and pharmacies would be idle." 2. Another doctor, Al-Harith ibn Kalada: "That which has killed mankind is the introduction of food on top of food before it has been digested." 3. As for spiritual benefits: humbleness of heart, strength of understanding, lessening of lower desires, lessening of personal opinions and anger, while overeating induces the opposites of all of those. 4. Al-Hasan Al-Basree said: "O, son of Adam, eat with one third of your stomach and drink with one third and leave one third of your stomach to breathe so that you may think." 5. Not reaching your goals: Muhammad ibn Wasi said: "Whoever eats little will understand and make others understand and will be clear and humble. Overeating weighs a person down and keeps him from much of what he wants [to accomplish]." 6. Al-Hasan Al-Basree: "The test of Aadam, alayhis-salaam, was food and it is your test until Qiyama." "Whoever takes control of his stomach gets control of all good deeds." "Wisdom does not reside in a full stomach." One day, Al-Hasan offered some food to his companion who said: "I have eaten until I am no longer able to eat." To which Al-Hasan said: "SubhaanAllaah! Does a Muslim eat until he is no longer able to eat?" 7. Ash-Shaafi'ee said: "I have not filled myself in sixteen years because filling oneself makes the body heavy, removes clear understanding, induces sleep and makes one weak for worship."

10.6.11 - 17.6.11
Private Sunnah and Public Sunnah of This Week
Remembering Death ..in private, in gatherings, among friends and family. Remembering the means to our final destination. That final stop before we reach our final goal.
"Every soul shall have taste of death; In the end, to Us shall ye be brought back." [Surah Al-'Ankabut, 29:57]
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Remember more often the destroyer of pleasures (death).'' [At-Tirmidhi].
"The most intelligent person is the one who often remembers death."
"Clever is the one who prepares for life after death."
Constant remembrance of it prevents one from evil and sin and motivates him towards good morals .
Once, the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam came to the Masjid for salaah, when he noticed some people laughing and giggling. He remarked, "If you remembered death, I would not see you like this. Think of your death often. Not a single day passes when the grave does not call out: ‘I am a wilderness, I am a place of dust, I am a place of worms.’ When a believer is placed in the grave, it says; ‘Welcome, it is good of you to have come to me. Of all the people walking on the Earth, I liked you the best. Now you have come in to me, you will see how I entertain you.’ It then expands as far as the occupant can see. A door from Paradise is opened for him in the grave and through this door he gets fresh and fragrant air of Paradise. However, when a evil man is laid in the grave it says; ‘You are not welcome here. Your coming into me is very bad for you. Of all the people walking on the Earth, I disliked you the most. Now that you have been put into me, you will see how I treat you!’ It then closes upon him so much that his ribs of one side penetrate into the ribs of the other. As many as seventy serpents are then set upon him, to keep biting him until the day of resurrection. These serpents are so venomous that if one of them happened to spurt its venom upon the earth, not a single blade of grass would ever grow."
"Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) to be affected by Allah's Reminder.. "

Public Sunnah
Hose off that Anger
Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution. (Abu Dawud)
Other things you can do to ward off anger:
"I know a word (sentence) the saying of which will cause him to relax if this man says it. Only if he said, 'I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the outcast.' (Bukhari)
When one of you becomes angry while standing, he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down. (Abu Dawud)
Remember:
"The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger." (Bukhari)
A man said to the Prophet , "Advise me!" The Prophet said, "Do not become angry and furious." The man asked (the same) again and again, and the Prophet said in each case, "Do not become angry and furious." (Bukhari)
The Prophet SWS said, as is recorded in Tirmidhi:
"Some are swift to anger and swift to cool down, the one characteristic making up for the other; some are slow to anger and slow to cool down, the one characteristic making up for the other; but the best of you are those who are slow to anger and swift to cool down, and the worst of you are those who are swift to anger and slow to cool down." He continued, "Beware of anger, for it is a live coal on the heart of the descendant of Adam. Do you not notice the swelling of the veins of his neck and the redness of his eyes? So when anyone experiences anything of that nature he should lie down and cleave to the earth."

Private SunnahMiswak-ing - Anas (May Allah be pleased with him)reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "I stress upon you to use Miswak (tooth-stick).''
- Allah's Apostle said, "If I had not found it hard for my followers or the people, I would have ordered them to clean their teeth with Siwak for every prayer." [Bukhari]
- "The Prophet said, 'But for my fear that it would be hard for my followers, I would have ordered them to clean their teeth with Siwak on every performance of ablution."
- Aisha said, "The Prophet said, "It (i.e. Siwak) is a purification for the mouth and it is a way of seeking Allah's pleasure."
- Whenever the Prophet got up at night, he used to clean his mouth with Siwak.
- Shuraih bin Hani (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I asked `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "What was the first thing which the Prophet (PBUH) would do when he entered his house?'' She replied: "He would use Miswak (tooth-stick).''
